We have been given the “green light” to open the Salem Lutheran Church Sanctuary Doors to begin worship services at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 28. At the Salem Church Council meeting of June 17, it was a unanimous vote to do so, along with the blessing of Rev. Susan Odegard, who was also present at the meeting.

Following several Small Group Upper Room sessions earlier in the month, we will begin hosting our Sunday morning worship by utilizing some of the same safety measures we have been using for our Salem Knitters, our Monday afternoon Bible Study sessions, and our Upper Room worship – all held in the Salem Fellowship Hall.

For worship in our sanctuary, we ask again that masks are worn for these services. We have extra masks if you do not have one. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and sterilized units of juice and wafers will be used for Holy Communion.

No coffee hour will be observed, no hymn-singing is allowed, and in case we need more space during worship, chairs will be set up in the Salem Narthex. An offering container will be placed at the entrance to the sanctuary, as well as the sterile communion kits. Each person entering the sanctuary should take their own communion elements and wait until the appointed time in the worship service as Rev. Susan leads us through the “Words of Institution” and preparation portion of the communion rite.

Worship services will be held every Sunday at 9 a.m., beginning on June 28, and run throughout the summer. As autumn approaches, we will make adjustments as needed and we are planning that our worship sessions will last about 30-40 minutes. Family members may be seated next to one another. Hand cleansing stations will be set up at both entrances to the church and bottled cleansers will be available as well. No bulletins will be given out – the worship service prayers and instructions will be available on the large video screen in the sanctuary or as a hand-out that can be taken home.

Rev. Susan will continue to post weekly meditations online throughout the summer.
